PinkSlipMixers.com invites local Bay Area Hiring Companies & Recruiters to join thousands of NUMMI Plant Workers and local job seekers for a Special Happy Hour event!
Fremont, CA - February 7, 2010 - The California Employment Development Department reported on February 2, 2010 that of the State's 18.2 million labor force workers, 2.2 million people or 12.1% are unemployed or unwillingly without a job. These figures do not include non-working professionals who are not receiving unemployment benefits or the under-employed. All of California, including Fremont and Palo Alto, has a higher rate of unemployment than the national unemployment rate.
PinkSlipMixers.com, a California community volunteer organization, is hosting a special job networking event to help the 6,000 NUMMI workers affected by the plant closure in Fremont-CA. The massive lay-offs will negatively affect up to 35,000 families in California whose livelihoods are tied to the facility. PinkSlipMixers understands the widespread impact these mass lay-offs on the economic growth of the community on a state and regional level. PinkSlipMixers is teaming up with City Beach in Fremont to host the biggest ever "Pay It Forward" Job Networking Mixer and Happy Hour event. This will be an amazing event!
Several local hiring companies will be present at this special networking event to meet and recruit mid to upper level professionals. As always, various industry professionals will be represented; however, the NUMMI plant will be closing in March so we are doing our best to invite their white collar professionals. These are the times where we should band together to utilize all of our resources. Organizers anticipate several hundred job seekers in attendance. Participants will be networking face-to-face and connecting on-line via Twitter, Facebook, and PinkSlipMixers.com. The event is free!
When: 4pm - 7pm PST Thursday, February 18 2010
Where: 4020 Technology Place, Fremont, CA 94538
PinkSlipMixers 2.0 and local SF Bay Area businesses are banding together to help stimulate the local job market by supporting live job networking mixers. Labor Day Has A New Meaning: National Event Helps Other Job Seekers Find Jobs.
San Jose, Calif., August 20, 2009 - National community grass-roots organization, PinkSlipMixers.com, will organize a simultaneous multi-city, bi-coastal, job networking event on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, that will utilize various online social media tools for the purpose of banding together thousands of job seekers to discover and uncover jobs. The event will connect each city by live-video streaming on PinkSlipMixers.com (powered by Groupsite.com) as well as real-time micro-blogging on Twitter and LinkedIn. Inspired by the "Tax Tea Party" of April 2009, the PinkslipMixers.com's world's largest job search networking event will be non-partisan. The goal of the one day event is to encourage job seekers to find job opportunities and show America that laid-off professionals are still valuable employees.
The current recession and continual corporate layoffs are redefining the meaning of Labor Day. Traditionally, Labor Day recognized and rewarded Americans with a day of rest for achievements in the labor force. Now, with so many Americans out of work, the efforts will be redirected toward job seekers and laid-off professionals because in the job search process there is no day off.
Where and When
Participating venues will be located in San Jose CA, Pasadena CA, San Diego CA, Newport Beach, CA, Las Vegas NV, and Jacksonville FL. The events will begin 2:00 PM PST and end 5:00 PM PST on September 7, 2009. PinkSlipMixers.com anticipates this will be the world's largest job search networking event. The national events are free to job seekers.

PinkSlipMixers.com and businesses are banding together to help stimulate the local job market with a unique live and on-line networking event. Together, they are looking to continue to support the jobless community by paying it forward, uncover the hidden job market and develop a positive job search community. This is an effort to provide a place for job seekers and hiring companies to come together beyond the Web and interact with one another on a face-to-face level. This kind of interaction can and will help people find more leads or at the very least, interact with others to provide job search support. According to Edwin Duterte, founder of PinkSlipMixers.com, "This is the right thing to do to help revitalize our local job market. Online networking is fantastic, but nothing beats meeting up-close-and personal."
An Orange County Certified Financial Planner, Ray Kim of DFG West, says, "Job seekers must stay motivated and network with as many people as possible because the next person they meet might know of a job for them. Having this national day for job seekers to help one another will bring our nation closer as a community."
The PinkSlipMixers event is more than the typical "pink slip party", a popular and growing trend around the country. Party guests utilize social media tools including Twitter to "Tweet" their job search and career criteria along with the link to their Linked In profile in hopes of maximizing their job search exposure.
There will be a video screen that will live stream each venue location onto the PinkSlipMixers.com website. PinkSlipMixers.com will be utilizing webcams to interview job seekers, career counselors and hiring companies. Job seekers in areas that we are not physically hosting events can still network online by participating through our online instant messaging tools.
The video projector will also allow guest to read live Twitter Feeds. As guests walk in the door they will Tweet what other guests are looking for professionally and what recruiters attending want in a candidate. For instance, a job seeker talking to a hiring manager might Tweet (which is done via cell phone): "Recruiter Jon wearing the striped shirt is looking for a Product Manager." Guests in the mixer will see people being featured on the video screen and hopefully go on to connect "in person" at the party to discuss a possible opportunities or the knowledge of one.
"We want to have our professional guests interact with one another and more importantly, make it personal for them," says Duterte. There will be various industry tables where our guests can congregate and mingle with professionals specific to their job focus. The mixers will include a '"speed career circuit' in which experts will offer free job search tips, such as resume critique, interview skills, etc.
One thing to note is that PinkSlipMixers events are not job fairs. They are volunteer supported community events in which every member wants to participate in to help one another find work. "It is very exciting to have everyone helping each other in such a positive way," says Duterte.

Ft. Lauderdale Native Son Returns and Vows to Help Local Job Seekers by Hosting a Party
Fort Lauderdale, FL - May 21, 2009 Fort Lauderdale native, Carlos Gil, is a laid off executive whos making his mark by paying it forward for those seeking work nationwide. Inspired by the West Coast community job search movement by PinkSlipMixers.com and accepting President Obama's call to volunteerism, Carlos Gil is doing his part in Florida by hosting unique Pink Slip Parties free of charge to people in search of their next job.
Born and raised in the Broward county suburb of Weston but now living in Jacksonville, Carlos Gil was on the fast track to success until he was laid off by insurance giant AIG in November 2008. Shortly thereafter, Gil started up JobsDirectUSA.com, an online job board where job seekers can submit their resumes to recruiters search and apply for jobs at no charge. In February Gil was introduced to the pink slip party concept by Edwin Duterte of PinkSlipMixers.com, a new twist to the pink slip party movement. Gil says, After being Pink Slipped last year, I decided that I could either look for a job like everyone else or figure out a unique way to stand out and helps others in need. Gil adds, I heard of this movement going on in Los Angeles and it sounded like the right thing to do. I cant create jobs; however, I can actively call on companies to see what is available to job seekers. Gil then lists those opportunities on his website. Further, Gil is reaching out to various communities throughout Florida and hosting free pink slip parties so that he can provide access for job seekers and hiring companies to communicate with each other face-to-face. Gil says, It is the right thing to do to revitalize our local job market.
Pink slip parties are becoming a national craze. Utilizing basic networking techniques businesses have used for decades, job seekers are now banding together to see how to maximize each other's contacts to find one another jobs. Carlos Gil says, I've hosted a few pink slip parties in the Jacksonville area and have already helped hundreds of job seekers come together with recruiters. My family still lives in the Broward county area and they have been telling me the stories of companies closing down or doing mass layoffs. I want to see job success in the city I grew up in. I want to do my part to rebuild the community and end this recession sooner than later. If more people in my old neighborhood reach out to one another, this current economy doesn't have to be so challenging.
The next Pink Slip Party hosted by Carlos Gil will be May 27, 2009 starting 5 PM and held at 88s Dueling Pianos at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino located at 5721 Seminole Way, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33314. Carlos Gil will also be hosting a Pink Slip Party for Miami-Dade county job seekers, and recruiters, on May 28, 2009 starting a 5 PM and held at Martini Bar Miami at Sunset Place located at 5701 Sunset Place 124a, Miami, FL 33143.
About Carlos Gil:
At age 25, Carlos Gil has already made a successful name for himself while representing the world's largest financial corporations as an employee. Within seven years Carlos Gil, a South Florida native, has gone from selling shoes part-time job to working in Branch and Client Management positions for Fortune 500 corporations such as American International Group (AIG), Citigroup and Regions Bank. After being downsized in late 2008, Gil launched JobsDirectUSA.com as a resource for job seekers to create a profile, search and apply for jobs, and submit their resume to recruiters at no charge. For a small annual fee employers, and job recruiters, can post unlimited jobs and view unlimited resumes on JobsDirectUSA.com.

While the G.I.F.T Movement's core focus are young professionals, Kimmy Song, CEO of !iT Jeans, states, " The challenge of these economic times led us to expand our objective by helping those in the larger community that are losing jobs. We hope to ease the pain of unemployment and diminished savings by providing a boost to the confidence of our communites. We feel it is the right thing to do and will inspire other like-minded companies to follow suit."
